Why Buy a Piano From Us?

1. Value.

Our overhead is super low, because we are a real “Mom and Pop” operation. Our little piano shop is located at our home near downtown Olympia, so we don’t have to pay for commercial retail space. We are family owned and operated and we don’t hire professional salespeople. That means the money you pay for our instruments goes into refined workmanship that makes our play and sound better than others you may have tried. Yet, if you compare our prices you’ll see we are very competitive.

2. Reputation

Registered Piano Technicians Guild member, Ryan Sowers, has one of the best reputations in the business. He services pianos for most of the prestigious teachers and performers in the area.  His dedication to the Piano Technicians Guild has allowed him to study with some of the most well-respected technicians in the United States. Ryan has received specialized training at both Yamaha North American Headquarters in Los Angeles, and the Steinway & Sons factory in New York.

3. Musicianship

As an advanced pianist, Ryan can experience the instrument not just as a technician, but as a musician. This allows him to bring a level of refinement to his technical work that would not otherwise be possible.

4. No Pressure

When you come to see one of our pianos you won’t be pressured into making a decision right away. In fact, we always encourage people to take their time when purchasing a piano.  What is important is that you make the right choice for you. Since you’ll be dealing directly with the technician you’ll be sure to get accurate information without all the sales hype.

A Baby Grand You Will Fall in Love With! High End Features at an Affordable Price!

4’10” P.S Wick

An unusually innovative restoration by renowned piano designer Del Fandrich

We are proud to be partnering with Fandrich Piano Company to offer this one of a kind small grand. Fandrich is an international star in the piano industry with his designs present in pianos made by Baldwin, Charles Walter, and Young Chang. This was a pet project and an opportunity for him to utilize a combination of his favorite techniques to take this little beauty to a whole new level.

Completely custom stringing designed by Mr. Fandrich utilizing high-end Hellerbass bass strings (Germany), Paulello hybrid wire (France) and Mapes International Gold wire (U.S.A.)

Signature “vertical hitch pins” for strings allow freer movement of the soundboard.

New Ronsen hammers made with German “Wurzen Felt”. These special hammers are currently the choice of many of the industry’s top piano restorers.  They are “cold pressed” and much more resilient than most piano hammers on the market.  They help produce a clear yet warm tone.

Soundboard restored using a cutting edge technique developed by Mr. Fandrich. The original soundboard is transformed into a spruce/resin composite that is very strong and resonant and will never develop cracks or splits.

Soundboard features “floating bass” to improve bass response.

Pinblock restoration is a similar technique to the soundboard. Original pinblock is saturated with high strength marine epoxy and redrilled for non-oversize pins. The use of non-oversize pins makes tuning easier. This pinblock will easily last another 100 years.

1941 Super Stylish Mid-Century Spinet by Everett

Beautiful genuine ivory keys and original matching bench!

Everett made some of the best small pianos before the company was bought by Yamaha in the late 1973. The real ivory keys are beautifully white and in good condition. Solid brass pedals and elegant case design make for a classy statement in your living room. Notice the sound escape slots cut into the panel above the pedals to allow more bass tone to come through. Piano has been voiced for warm, yet clear tone – not the tinny sound typical of lower quality spinet pianos. Action has been regulated for excellent touch and control.

Pristine 2011 Henry F. Miller 47” Upright Piano

Excellent touch and tone in high polish ebony

Henry F. Miller was an old name in the piano industry, but in later years was purchased by the renowned piano retailer Sherman Clay to use as its house brand.  Sherman Clay contracted the building of this model to Pearl River Group, the same company entrusted by Steinway & Sons to make their Essex line of pianos. They represent the state of the art of modern Asian piano manufacturing. It has a big, projecting sound and a smooth action. The previous owner bought it for a daughter who did not play it very long before quitting, so it has almost no visible wear – it is really like getting a brand new piano. For this reason we are willing to give it a full 10-year warranty instead of our usual 5-year warranty. Includes matching bench with music compartment.

Late 1880’s Behr Brothers Upright

Interesting Gothic/Victorian style will be a great conversation piece

Amazing condition for its age with real ivory keys

This piano came from a home in Puyallup and had been untouched for many decades. We decided to rescue it before it was dumped and we are so glad we did! We are very happy with how this piano responded to reconditioning: It tuned right up to standard pitch, the action was well preserved and nice to work with and the musical results exceeded our expectations.

Our Bargain Piano!

Early 1900’s Merrifield Upright Grand

SOLD!

An Awesome Piano for a Bargain Hunter!

Offered at $995 + tax

This is a terrific piano with a big tone and an easy action. It has received only minor refurbishing and we are leaving the case a little on the “rough side” in order to offer it to clients who want a very functional piano on a budget. That being said, the overall look of the piano is quite attractive and it has exquisite detailing.

This piano may be a lifelong Olympia resident! The owner of Yenney Music recently saw this piano and said that Olympia’s original piano store “Rabeck Music” sold pianos with the Merrifield name.

1991 Yamaha 44” Cherry upright piano

Sold!

Voiced for warm tone and in near perfect condition

Offered at $2795 + tax

You can't go wrong with a Yamaha! It's the "Toyota" of pianos! And this one was actually made in America! Current similar models are made in China.

This barely used piano is super clean.
A great feature of this model is the practice mute. When the middle pedal is depressed it cuts the sound by about 70 percent allowing for quiet practice. It is great to use when doing repetitive exercises and saves wear and tear on the piano's felt hammers.

One of the things that set our instruments apart from other is the "voicing" we do to our pianos. Voicing refers to bringing out the best tone and touch by working with the hammer felt. We have techniques that we have spent many years developing that give our pianos a warmer, richer, and more controllable tone. If you have heard that Yamaha pianos are too "bright" (meaning the tone is someone harsh and brilliant) you should give ours a try.

image015

This is a one owner piano that purchased the piano locally. This is a big advantage because we live in a very piano friendly climate. Pianos can be damaged when they are moved to very humid or very dry climates.

SOLD

Gorgeous Mason & Hamlin Model A 5’8” Grand Piano

An outstanding value for $15,000

New Mason & Hamlin Model A Pianos sell for over $70,000!

From Pianobuyer.com:

“The tone of Mason & Hamlin pianos is typically American — lush, singing, and powerful, not unlike the Steinway in basic character, but with an even more powerful bass and a clearer treble. The designers have done a good job of making a recognizable Mason & Hamlin sound that is consistent throughout the model line. The 5' 8" model A has a particularly powerful bass for a piano of its size.

We are selling this piano for a client who is downsizing. We love this piano! It has wonderful touch and tone. The piano had been serviced by top Seattle technician Steve Brady prior to coming to Olympia. Piano had received some excellent piano restoration in the past including new strings, hammers, key bushings, key covers, damper felt, and case refinishing. It also has a professional level adjustable artist bench and a humidity control system.

The Baldwin piano company made some of the best sounding and playing small pianos. This is a very well-preserved, hardly used console piano purchased from the original owner’s son after the owner passed away. Baldwin had a commitment to using full-sized action in all their console pianos unlike other manufactures that used a “compressed” action that is not as responsive.

The piano was seen at Olympia Federal Savings during Olympia Arts Walk! Students of one of Olympia’s premier piano teachers, Jennifer Bowman, played and the piano received very favorable reviews!

Super Cute Refurbished 1930's Mini-upright piano

Another super fun piano!

We just put the finishing touches on this cute 1930's Story & Clark 3/4 size upright piano. These uprights were a transition between the larger old uprights from the 1900-1920's period and the era of consoles and spinets that started after WWII. I love the look of these! They have similar dimensions to the old uprights, but in a petite form that doesn't dominate the room.

This was from a local estate. The previous owner had it refinished approximately 20 years ago, so it looks very nice, although there is some minor wear and tear. The keys are perfect and it has undergone our thorough refurbishing package.

Offered at $1895 and includes

~ Dampp-Chaser humidity control system (we charge $260 to install these in client's pianos)
~Local delivery (most movers are charging at least $250 for a local piano move)
~Follow up tuning after delivery (most tuners charge between $100-$200)

~Bench with music compartment
~5-year Warranty and discounted tuning rates for the warranty period.

This gently used piano is in excellent condition. In some ways it is better than new, because the felts have settled and the action re-regulated, the strings, tuning pins, and soundboard are stable, yet there is almost no visible wear on the action. You get the advantages of a piano that has aged and settled, but without the wear!

This is a made-in-America Yamaha. Several years ago Yamaha closed its American piano factory and now these are made China. We think think the American made pianos are superior because they have not been shipped overseas from a different climate.
